Special report · the morning after

The keys broke.
The boxes held.

When curve cryptography fell, every wallet that had ever shown its public key became readable overnight. The coins in a box did not. Nobody could forge the seal or see whose coins they were.

By our correspondent, who was not observed
Why “Qatbox”? Q is for quantum. The rest is Schrödinger's cat in a sealed box: nobody can know what's inside until it's opened. Qatbox does the same for your coins. The full story, p.3 →

Qatbox is a sealed box for your coins. You put value in. It's converted to shielded ZEC notes, so the chain records that a box exists but not whose it is or what it holds.

The lid is sealed with a post-quantum signature, ML-DSA backed by hash-based SLH-DSA. It is built on lattices and hashes rather than the curves a quantum computer is expected to break. Only your key opens it, and you choose where it goes when you do.

Until then, there's nothing for anyone to observe. This edition is a speculative demonstration. Nothing here is live.

Investigation · exhibits A to C

Every key you ever signed with is a confession.

A quantum computer doesn't need your seed phrase. It needs your public key, and most chains have already printed it.

Shor's algorithm turns a public key into a private key. Nobody knows when the hardware arrives. We do know which keys are already sitting in public. This page lets you check yours. It's read-only and needs no wallet connection.

The evidence
CONFESSED
EXHIBIT A

Solana

Your address is your ed25519 public key. It confessed on day one, before you ever signed anything.

IT DEPENDS
EXHIBIT B

Bitcoin

Hidden behind a hash until the first spend, then confessed. Taproot addresses show the key from the start.

ONCE SENT
EXHIBIT C

Ethereum

Your key can be recovered from the signature on any transaction you have ever sent.

A box breaks the chain of evidence. The coins inside sit in shielded notes, and the lid answers only to a post-quantum key. There's no confession to read.

32
bytes

The length of a Solana address. It's also the length of the public key, because they are the same 32 bytes.

Plate 1 · the name, explained

Why it's called Qatbox.

The cat. In 1935, the physicist Erwin Schrödinger imagined a cat sealed in a box. In quantum physics, the cat is alive and dead until somebody opens the lid and looks. It's the most famous image in quantum theory.

The Q. Q is for quantum. It stands for the threat we box against, Q-Day, and the seal we box with, post-quantum signatures.

The box. The point is the box. Nobody outside it can know what's inside, and only opening it settles the question.

Qatbox. We built that box for your coins. The owner, the amount and the destination stay unknown to everyone, including chain analysts and quantum computers, until you open it with your key. Pick an observer on the plate and see for yourself.

Which box is Alice's?

Alice boxed 12 ZEC this morning. Six boxes were made in the same block. Tap the one you think is hers.

Answer: you can't tell.

Neither can anyone else. Every box looks the same from outside, with no owner, no amount and no curve. That's the whole product.

What $QatBox does (and doesn't).

Opening a box costs a small fee, paid from a shielded ZEC note. Fees go to the keepers who run the sweep and, in the intended model, to $QatBox stakers and a buyback on the pair.

Stake $QatBox and your share of opening fees is paid in shielded ZEC, so nobody can tell which staker earned what. That is the token's whole job.

What it doesn't do: it doesn't make your box safer, it doesn't remove the need to trust published code, and it isn't an investment recommendation. Every figure here is a sample.

What the box hides. What it doesn't.

What we hide

Who owns a box. How much is inside. Where it will go. Any curve-based key that a quantum computer could read.

What we don't

That a box exists. When it was made and opened. The fee that was paid. Your IP address, so use Tor or a VPN. The chain around the box still runs on today's cryptography.

Post-quantum isn't magic

Lattice and hash-based signatures are the current best bet, not a guarantee. Shielded pools are strong privacy, but amounts at the edges can still be correlated.

CORRECTIONAn earlier draft of this page said "invisible". The right word is unobservable. You can see that a box exists, but not whose it is or what it holds.
Letters to the editor

“I put my rent in a box and now I can't stop checking it's still there. Is that normal?” A reader
Ed. Yes. Only you can check, which is rather the point.

“If nobody can see inside, how do I know there's anything in it?” A sceptic
Ed. You can. Your key opens it and verifies the commitment. Everyone else just has to wonder.

NOT LIVE. No real box, payment or proof runs on this site. It's a demonstration. Not affiliated with Zcash, ECC or any other project. Not advice.
